Clean Currents - Wind EnergyThis is a featured page

Use clean renewable energy and save money? The question is why wouldn't you do this.

Chesapeake Green (C-Green) is a new carbon neutral electricity option for people in the Maryland. C-Green combines standard electricity from the Mid Atlantic grid (the PJM grid) with Renewable Energy Credits (“RECs” or “greewind turbinen tags”) from wind power farms situated across the United States, bundled together and supplied by Washington Gas Energy Services, a licensed retail energy supplier in Maryland (MD) and DC. This bundled wind energy product helps fight global warming by offsetting the carbon emissions from your electricity use with clean, renewable wind power.

Plus, for every person who signs up, Clean Currents will give $10 to a green project in the City (yet to be determined - stay tuned) from the Green Neighborhood Effect. To do this, make sure you put down on the form (found here) "Hyattsville" so that they know to credit us. So far we have 14 people who have signed up, that's $140 for a green project here in Hyattsville! Once you sign up, that is it. Everything as far as service is exactly the same. PEPCO still maintains the wires and is called when there is an emergency. The only difference is on the bill where you will see a separate page for Clean Currents and, oh yea, a lower bill! Greenbelt just got a check for over $1,000, we can do better!

Chesapeake Green current wind power rates for Maryland are lower than Pepco's Summer rates! See the table below. Clean Currents rates are in green, PEPCO's are in red.

All you need is your Pepco account number! (Note: If you don't know your account number, you can find out by calling Pepco at 202-833-7500 )

Clean Currents wind power rates cover all wind energy Generation and Transmission charges. The rate is the same at all times for the length of your contract. Power distribution is still a regulated market (you do not have a choice). Your wind power Distribution charges will stay with the utility in your area (Pepco or BGE). Your utility is still responsible for the reliability of your power, power line maintenance, and billing.

Jim, are all towns eligible by default (e.g., Riverdale Park), do you know? Or do they have to take action to be included in the list? Thanks.

Dwight
