I'd like to get the ball rolling by introducing the first in a series of Associated Press Style rules. The AP Stylebook and Libel Manual is considered by many to be "the journalist's bible." Since my early days in J-school, I have used it as a reference guide to ensure my writing embodies proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and usage. I belive that all credible news outlets work diligently to ensure consistency throughout their publication and AP Style is one of the most widely used style manuals in the world. You can purchase a copy of the AP Style Manual at most bookstores and online.

Let's start with ABBREVIATIONS AND ACRONYMS:
Before a name: Abbreviate the following titles when used before a full name outside direct quotations: Dr., Gov., Lt. Gov., Mr., Mrs., Rep., the Rev., Sen. and certain military designations. Spell out all except Dr, Mr., Mrs. and Ms. when they are used before a name in direct quotations.
