I greened the house with reknewable recylables. Low water bills by buying installing water saver, toilets, faucets, shower heads five yearsago save 50% off bill. To save 33% off Pepco, and Natural Gas,Insulated replaced all outer wall Switches, outlets with insulation kit from rekewable recylables.com. Install Honeywell programable thermastate also at same website. Windows take 23 years to save what they cost, in energy. Considered replacing boiler to save 5%, Bookhultz heating told me boiler for radiators is in good shape for the next decade. Checkout your chimney flue, for proper venting many chimney capesare crumbling and need new lners installed,or your heat will run continously to the tune of $300- $450+ heating bills. Hey check out the elected officials whom push the AGENDA;; and do everything as neo-capitalists, posing as sheep envirementalists. Example :#1 PG is only place in USA, with no limite on taxes, specifically Hyattsville assessments not having a cap on property taxes. In Maryland the norm is 5% not 80% plus increases. Look into who the counselors are and what LLC's they have formed off of profits from various Plans. And CONFlICTS of interest centered on your families Budget. Can you afford to live in Hyattsville post plan, taxes of 12k a year plus your mortgage. And to beat all Potomac, Chevy Chase, Glen Echo, pay 0 property taxes and get to deduct all Greening of property. Checkout or google MD.Property Taxes and be informed of the True Master Plan. Families in Hyattsville will become indigent, to the point that they will have to move to another County. Fictacious Example Q; Family Husband & Wife ,2 small children can buy $160.000 house, but must make 36k extra a year to pay $1k a month for homeowner tax credit applied property residance,on top of mortgage. Works in the immediate area.

"Check it out yourself this is Homeowners, owner occupied homes of The Village of Chevy Chase, Section 3,5, Glen Echo, finally Potomac. Most of the nieghborhoods have only Single Family homes, nothing more then a Pharmacy,Grocery Store,Gas Station, so that is not the reason. http://www.dat.state.md.us/sdatweb/taxrate.html The reason is that their representitives in the senate last year implimented no taxes for these areas based on , greening the houses instead. This year homeowners are claiming their homes as lawyers residances, roofers, plumbers, builders, general contractors, and doctors, but they donot see clients nor patients at their houses. Thay also, contested the bubble breaking and had all of their homes reaccessed to current values, and have an emposed cap of appreciation of less then 5%. 1 mile from DC.
" I guess we need some cap limit for appreciation, sothat we are not paying 12k a year in Property taxes. The wolves are gaurding the hen house.

Appauling, to research Maryland tax juristictions to find, we have put in office counselors whom approve no regulation on property taxes, or accessments. So their never will be a so called middle class. You would halve to make 250k to live here after your mortgage, utilities, taxes. Can your family afford 12k a year in taxes, with the homeowner tax credit?

Greetings Everyone,
I just bought a new home. Actually, it's my first home. Yay me!! Anyways I just wanted to know how much it costs my fellow Hyattsville Residents, a month, on utility bills. My household number is 2.
Also if there are some energy saving tips you could give, it would be greatly appreciated.
I've already seen the rain barrel post. This will come in handy as I intend on starting a garden. I WILL get low flow shower heads and plug out all electronics when not in use. But if there is any other advice you could give, that would be great!

Want to have a rewarding experience this summer working to green our nation’s capital while engaging and mentoring youth from around the District? Then the Mayor’s Green Summer Job Corps is the place for you! In 2009, our supervisors led the nation’s largest green collar jobs training program through a successful nine week program. Below is a quick glimpse of some of the projects accomplished in 2009:
• Installed rain gardens throughout the District; • Built and installed planters for native vegetation along the H Street Corridor; • Maintained (mulched, pruned and watered) newly planted trees across the District; • Removed many tons of garbage from District waterways; • Labeled storm drains to prevent pollution in the Anacostia River; • Educated District residents on energy efficiency through the distribution of CFL bulbs and weatherization kits – over 500 resident homes served; and • Tons of invasive plant species removed from wetland areas to promote the reintroduction of native wildlife.
The Green Summer program is an excellent way for those interested in the environment and conservation fields to gain valuable field level work and leadership experience while making a difference in young people’s lives.
If you are interested in having a summer experience that will change your life – join us this summer and apply today. Please follow this link to read job descriptions and pay levels http://green.dc.gov/green/lib/green/pdfs/Postion_Listings_and_Pay_Scale_-_2010.pdf

A female white/gray/brindle pit bull mix, Berdina, who was being fostered through the Washington Animal Rescue League, escaped in DC and has been tracked to the Hyattsville area. We've been looking for her for awhile, and just within the past couple days received sightings of her around Heurich Park and the nearby apartment buildings which were confirmed by a pet tracker. If you see her please call us at 202-230-4493. We would also greatly appreciate volunteer help posting fliers in the area and emailing fliers to businesses in the area. If you have a couple hours to help us bring Berdina home for the holidays, we would greatly appreciate it.

The Anacostia Watershed Society was founded in 1989 by a small group of concerned individuals who decided that the environmental needs of the Anacostia River and its watershed communities required serious attention. Over the past 20 years, our staff and programming efforts have expanded significantly to encompass efforts in environmental education, stewardship, and advocacy. We are making a difference, won't you help!
We need volunteers to help clean and restore the watershed! We organize environmental volunteer events on a regular basis, such as trash cleanups and invasive plant removal outings, at Magruder Park (among other sites within the watershed), close to your community!

RE: BIOPRO IS A SCAM!
By: ,
Sep 28 2009, 9:23 PM EDT
a couple years ago my wife was interested in joining the biopro machine and I checked into it. The so-called research includes no randomized double-blind trials (the standard for rigorous scientific testing), nor actually any double-blind trials at all. Some of the trials were not even blind trials. In other words, the experimenter stuck the chip on people's phones and said, in effect "This will block radiation. Do you feel any difference?" Is that like leading the witness or something? If I stuck my finger on the back of people's heads and said "I am shooting spiral vortex rays through your brain. Do you feel anything?" there will be several people who answer yes.
Anyway, the point is, the biopro trials are only "science" in the sense that a ouija board is science. I understand they are looking for a "scientist" who will perform a random double-blind and get the results they want. What with the economy as it is, there ought to be someone willing to compromise their integrity if biopro pays enough.

RE: City of Hyattsville Site & RSS Feeds

I received an email from the City about this issue and here's the scoop.
The feeds the City site provides are accessible through the Internet Explorer and Safari browsers. If you are using Firefox 3.5 as a browser it won't recognize the correct feed address. So if you want the feeds and you are in Firefox here are the correct URLS:
For City of Hyattsville Web Page Changes http://hyattsville.org/support/pages.xml
For City of Hyattsville News Flashes http://hyattsville.org/support/newsflash.xml
For City of Hyattsville Events http://hyattsville.org/support/calendars.xml
It's great to see the City of Hyattsville's communications office being so proactive and responsive. I'm impressed :)

Just a reminder that the Hyattsville Farmers Market is now open for 2009. The market is every Tuesday afternoon from 2pm to 6pm. Interesting to note that despite some grumbling last year about the location and number of vendors, the market was quite successful. The quality of the produce is typically quite good
